As the first half of 2009 has just passed, we thought it would be timely to review real estate activity on Kaua‘i.  As to be expected in light of the global economic downturn, the results are down in every category versus the same timeframe for 2008.  Please bear in mind that the Kaua‘i real estate market is an insulated one with a relatively small sampling section, therefore a high or low dollar sale, a new condominium project or subdivision can dramatically affect the statistics.

Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce hosts huge Waimea celebration

The Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce held its first Westside Business After Hours for 2009 at the beautiful Aston Waimea Plantation Cottages which had as its theme “Taste of Waimea — Celebrating Our Military in Hawai‘i.” The event was sponsored by the West Kaua‘i Business & Professional Association and partners Syngenta Seeds and Aston Waimea Plantation Cottages/Kikiaola Land Co. The event included several co-sponsors including: Akimeka Technologies LLC, BASF, Kaua‘i Coffee, Kaua‘i Realty, Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital, Mokulele Airlines, Pioneer Seed, Speedi Shuttle, The Parker Group, Waste Management of Hawaii and West Kaua‘i Rotary Club.

Hawaiian Telcom to close June 16

LIHU‘E — In response to the current economic climate and a changing market, Hawaiian Telcom has decided not to renew its lease with Kukui Grove Center and will close its doors June 16.

Kukui‘ula cuts jobs, delays openings

Flood zones: Do you know what they are?

Flood zones are geographic areas that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has defined according to varying levels of flood risk. These zones are depicted on a community’s Flood Insurance Rate Map or Flood Hazard Boundary Map. Each zone reflects the severity or type of flooding in the area.

Kaua‘i comes together

On the morning of April 9, I started receiving e-mails from various colleagues asking me “Have you seen this yet?” There on CNN.com was Kaua‘i’s story of the Westside community coming together to fix the road to Polihale State Park. It was one of those days where our little island was making national news for something that comes naturally to so many here on Kaua‘i.

Economic Stimulus for Kaua’i

I’m sure everyone reading this has some knowledge of the Federal Government’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, otherwise known as the “Economic Stimulus Package.” There is much interest from our citizens, businesses, government agencies, nonprofit organizations and others on how they are able to receive some of the $789 billion that is being infused into our national, state and local economies.
