Candice Kraughto of the Starwood Hotels and Resorts said Sunday on FOX2 is the airing of the Westin Princeville segment with Chef Chai. Unfortunately, she was so busy forgetting to attend a wedding we missed the one with Chef Ikaika Manaku and the Sheraton Kaua‘i.

Mahalo to all of the coaches who help to make TGI Sports what it is! Veronica Nagahisa brought in the scorebook for the Kawaihau Majors championship game since it conflicted with the Mustang Sectionals; Dondi Viquelia and Lihu‘e PONY coach Tommy John Cox both said Lihu‘e won the championship 12-2, Sunday (that one conflicted with “Taste of Hawai‘i”), and coach Sean Andrade said the Kaua‘i Police Activities League flag football program starts this morning at Hanapepe Stadium. Mahalo, coaches!

Today is the day for Joe Grace at the KJ Lunchwagon in front of the PS&D store in Lihu‘e. Joe said he’s been offering prime rib on Wednesdays and was surprised when it sold out on the first time. Since then, he’s put prime rib on his Wednesday lunch menus and has been doing really well.

The couple from Japan are here trying to get photos of apapane (they said Jim Denny is famous in Japan!), but took time out of chasing birds (they’ve seen a lot of mejiro) to take in the Kaua‘i Museum’s 29th annual May Day Lei Contest and Celebration after Takashi read about it during his lunch break in Japan.

She’ll be having Portuguese bean soup Friday at the Aston Islander on the Beach as a fundraiser for the Visitor Industry Charity Walk, and if you don’t think that’s going to be good, Lawton Sugihara is at the Islander on the Beach and everybody remembers how good the plate lunches at Aloha Airlines’ United Way fundraisers were.

And congratulations to crowd favorite Tony Reyes on a great comeback to win the tournament for the first time. Russell Shimazu took a break from hair care duties to check out some of the final-day action, Tuesday, and kudos to Gary Mage for making sure all the results are up on the PBA Web site. Actually, Gary saw the Camper doing Food Collection, Saturday at the Wal-Mart store, but wasn’t sure.

Mayor Bernard Carvalho and Regina didn’t get chicken skin watching Kristi Celebrado take the stage on TV. Instead, the Carvalhos were ringside at the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival and caught a 6:30 a.m. flight Friday morning to make the dedication and blessing of Kalepa Village, Phase 4.

Sandi Sterker said this is a Lions weekend. ... Today there is the West Kaua‘i Lions Club’s spaghetti dinner at ‘Ele‘ele School cafeteria (fine dining or take-out?) starting at 5 p.m. (Eric Nordmeier and Naoko Ho still have tickets), the East Kaua‘i Lions are having its golf tournament at Wailua Golf Course (how does Kelvin Moniz get in a round and still do the Kaua‘i Food Bank collection?) and Sunday is the North Shore pancake breakfast (go check out the Gary Pacheco special). Bill Troutman said they never run out of food, and if you’re really lucky, you might see coach Mits Yokotake performing.

Cynthia Edralin said she will have some copies of her dessert cookbook (really good stuff in here) available at the MS Walk next Saturday starting at 7:30 a.m. at the Kukui Grove Shopping Center. This features a lot of personal dessert recipes from a lot of well-known Kaua‘i people and is available as a fundraiser for MS. But you gotta take in the walk to get a copy.

Wendy Tannery had the opportunity to expose Waimea Canyon Middle School physical education students to softball since the Waimea Invitational Softball Tournament was in her back yard. Wendy said some of the students had never experienced the game before while others were thrilled because they had relatives playing for all three of Kaua‘i’s high school teams in the tournament.
