Kaua‘i makes guest appearance on MTV

PO‘IPU — Millions of households nationwide got a glimpse of Kaua‘i’s lush landscape and tropical paradise during the season six opener of Run’s House on MTV Monday.
The Simmons, including Rev Run — Joseph Simmons, formally of Run D.M.C — his wife, Justine, and their six children, recently visited the island, bringing with them a camera crew to capture footage for their family reality show.
Run’s House is reportedly seen by approximately 2 million viewers in the U.S. alone and is also aired internationally, which Kaua‘i Visitors Bureau Executive Director Sue Kanoho believes will be beneficial to Kaua‘i’s economy.
“Run’s House has a strong national following with positive messages about family life, so we jumped at the opportunity to have them show how fun and exciting Kaua‘i is for a family vacation,” Kanoho said.
KVB was able to provide production support for the taping of the show, along with industry partners’ assistance, including the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort and Spa, where the family stayed, and Outfitters Kaua‘i.
The production crew of 34 people spent a week on Kaua‘i starting in late January to chronicle the vacation experiences of the Simmons family.
“We appreciated the professionalism of the production crew while on island and are thrilled they featured Kaua‘i for the season debut,” Kanoho said. “It’s easy to see why the show is such a success.”
The one-hour special, which aired last week, showed the family enjoying a variety of activities from a luau, to surfing lessons.
“We were excited to be a part of the season premiere of Run’s House. The show always has a positive message, and in this case it was all about taking time to relax and appreciate life and family,” said Katy S. Britzmann, director of sales and marketing for the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i. “Our associates embraced the cast and crew, and they were all very genuine and appreciative. The exposure for the resort and island exceeded my expectations.”
“The positive comments made during the show are eternal reminders of the great experience Rev Run’s family had during their Kaua‘i vacation,” Kanoho said Friday.
The episode is expected to be re-broadcast on multiple occasions, “further adding to the value of Kaua‘i’s exposure as a travel destination,” said a recent press release from KVB.
