Roy Yamashita, sales rep at Kaua‘i’s Dodge dealer, provided the following information regarding the Honda Insight for 2010.
Looking for something economical and safe? Welcome to the Honda Insight which is new for 2010. Came out in 2000 as a two-seater to compete with Toyota Prius. Honda has come out with the Insight’s new look as a four-door hatchback.
The Insight has 1.3 liter engine with 98 horsepower and because the Insight is a hybrid it runs off an electric motor in city traffic when you are idling but will switch to gas when the need for power arises. As a result of this 10-year ongoing technology, the Insight gets between 40 and 44 miles per gallon.
Part of Honda’s philosophy is safety for everyone. Whether you buy an entry level or a fully loaded vehicle the safety features are all the same. Dual airbags, front airbags, side airbags, side curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes are all standard.
The Insight is very comfortable for a family seating five with plenty of room in the back with fold down seats to load bigger items.
There are two Insight models to choose from. The LX is the introductory model with power windows and door locks, air conditioning and stereo all standard. The EX comes with 15-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, upgraded stereo and a steering wheel mounted “paddle shifter” to allow the switch from automatic transmission to standard shift when “sport mode” is selected.
The Honda Insight is a natural for the island lifestyle. Kaua‘i families can pack up the beach gear and head out to the surf and sun.
