Free Tax Services for Kauai Workers

9 a.m. to 3 p.m., March 21, ILWU Local 142 conference room in Lihu‘e, 4154 Hardy St., walk-ins only

9 a.m. to 2 p.m., March 21, Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement in Anahola, 4523 Ioane Road, call 800-709-2642 for appointment

Noon to 3 p.m., March 22, Punua Insurance Agency in Lihu‘e, 4268 Rice St., call 245-8508 for appointment

On March 21 and March 22, trained and IRS-certified volunteer tax return preparers recruited by the Family and Individual Self-Sufficiency Program at Aloha United Way will be helping ALULIKE, Inc., the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement, and Kaua‘i Volunteer Tax Preparation provide additional free tax assistance to Kaua‘i workers.

• Since March 21 has been declared “Super Saturday” by the Internal Revenue Service, in addition to free tax preparation, the FISSP will be providing a $15 gift card to each taxpayer who files a federal return at these three clinics. For the walk-in only site in Lihu‘e, taxpayers will be served on a “first come, first served” basis and no new returns will be started after 2:30 p.m.

• These clinics will focus on helping taxpayers claim the Earned Income Tax Credit and other valuable tax benefits. To qualify for the EITC, a person must have earned income. Earned income is money from a job or self-employment but also includes union strike benefits, taxable long-term disability benefits received before the minimum retirement age, household employee income, and certain types of combat pay. The EITC provides the greatest benefit to those who have children but is available to single or married couples without children. Taxpayers without children must be at least 25 years old and under age 65 but no age limit applies if the taxpayer has a qualifying child.

• Taxpayers can log onto the Program’s dedicated website at www.hawaiitaxhelp.org to learn more and to find a list of documents that they will have to bring to the free tax sites in order to have their returns prepared. Taxpayers can also contact the program coordinator by e-mail at info@hawaiitaxhelp.org

Zonta Club of Hanalei hosts 2nd annual Luxury Ladies’ Spa Day

9 a.m. to 4 p.m., April 4

Halemana Estate in Kilauea Farms, 4160 N. Waiakalua St.

All women who are interested in treating themselves to a day of massages, mini-manicures or pedicures and ocean view Jacuzzis should consider attending the Zonta Club of Hanalei’s Luxury Ladies’ Spa Day.

In an effort to raise funds, the members of the Zonta Club of Hanalei invite you to participate in the second annual event at the Halemana Estate in Kilauea Farms.

• The pass for the full-day event includes a mimosa greeting, lunch, a 25-minute massage, and a mini-manicure or mini-pedicure (limited reservations upon arrival at the event). In addition, ladies may: Attend an art class; enjoy a yoga/pilates class; soak in one of two outdoor, ocean view Jacuzzi tubs; relax in the island’s largest steam room; walk down and play at the secluded beach below; purchase unique items at the gift boutiques; simply lounge and relax.

• All proceeds from this event help the Zonta Club of Hanalei raise operating funds so that the work of community fundraising and scholarships can continue to progress. Part of Zonta’s mission is to improve the legal, political, economic, educational and professional status of women. The organization works for the advancement of understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of executives in business and the professions.

• The $100 day-passes are on sale at Savage Pearls in Hanalei or by calling 652-3223. To see where the luxury day is being held, visit the Halemana estate online at www.halemanakauai.com
