Wake up and speak up
Yes, we care about the 500 children who were just killed in Gaza.
We also question why President Bush or President Obama did nothing to prevent the killings. Bush was still in power and Obama was in-coming and neither one of them said a word in defense of the innocent people in Gaza.
Israel has carte blanche to do anything it wants. They are basically doing what was done to the Jews in Germany during the Holocaust.
America keeps funneling money to Israel without any conditions and we are all so afraid to say anything because the Israeli lobby is so strong in America.
My solution is that we focus on the human rights issue and ask every person in America to protest this senseless killing of innocent children and families. When you have up to 1,300 dead in Gaza and 5,000 wounded and only 28 in Israel, that is a problem.
Someone said many years ago that “evil flourishes when good men do nothing” and unfortunately, America does absolutely nothing when it comes to Gaza killings that are done by Israel.
When are we as Americans going to wake up and speak up.

It’s not going to happen
I am of Arab decent, and even I can see the obvious bias and hatred of Israel by the world’s media and even some Christian churches.
This is very interesting as the only thing keeping America from being judged by God is their support of Israel.
America must have a death wish because once again The Garden Island as well as the rest of the media left continues to concentrate on the damage to the Palestinian civilian population in the Gaza Strip while totally ignoring all of the Jewish civilian casualties from the continual rocket attacks from the so-called Palestinians for over a year.
Until 60 years ago, the Palestinians as we know them today did not exist. They were not interested in that piece of land until Israel once again became a nation as the bible predicted over 2,000 years ago. The small group of Palestinians can easily be absorbed by the Arab nations that surround Israel. But the Arabs want the conflict to continue for the destruction of Israel. That is their goal and not peace.
That small piece of land does not belong to the Palestinians. It was given to the Jews by the God of the bible unconditionally over 4,000 years ago. For those who do not believe in the God of the bible, you can disprove his existence by the total destruction of Israel.
Why has Israel continued to exist when so many of its enemies want its total annihilation? The true God of the bible will not allow this to happen. Once again, the 100 percent accuracy of bible prophecy would be destroyed by simply destroying Israel. It’s not going to happen.

Respect culture without hindering progress
Yes, Mr. Tolbe, in response to your article (“Respect other cultures,” Letters, Jan. 26), I do have the greatest respect for all peoples’ cultures as long as that respect doesn’t discriminate or hurt someone else whose culture or race may be different.
I played baseball in Japan for five years and admired and respected all my Japanese teammates and their abilities and styles of life — and their culture.
I certainly admire the beautiful young women in the Miss Filipino contest and have absolutely no problem with their honoring Filipino women only. If African American, Caucasian or Orientals wish to hold similar contests, that too is fine with me.
But, Mr. Tolbe, the final sentence of your nice letter is where I disagree. You say, “There are lots of other leagues that youths can play in.”
On Kaua‘i, outside of KIF baseball where every player who has the ability can participate, there are no other leagues (other than AJA) where a young man can get further baseball experience.
Again, I commend and applaud the people in AJA baseball for having a league where players of all ages can participate. I only ask that they let any person with the ability play in their league and not limit them because of their race, color or ethnic background. Have respect for a culture, but not if it means barring a young man from possibly furthering his dream of playing baseball at the college level and getting his education in the process.
Yes, Mr. Tolbe, I will continue to promote student-athletes which I have done most of my life — 25 years at UCLA and 20 years on Kaua‘i.
And, as I said before, my only restriction on whom I choose to help will be his/her desire, ability and scholastic aptitude, nothing else.

Just a quick note to say mahalo to all of the staff, vendors and great guests who enjoyed Coconuts Island Style Grill & Bar. You were all great, most of the time.
Doors open and doors close and sometimes the hallway is unpleasant. Hopefully, change will be the engine of success.

" "religious whack job"? really? Because he stated his opinion and it's not the same as yours and mine. Why the personal attack? Why do you feel the need to get vicious and sarcastic? Just curious. You try to be funny with your snide comments, but they are not even amusing. I think it's just a way to cover up what you lack in intelligence. I think you are basically an angry person and no one really takes you serious. "

Mr. Saker, maybe you are right that “its not going to happen,” but it has nothing to do with god, and everything to do with American / Israel ties. The Jews have a strong influence in our government and politics. If it were not for the United States, there is good chance Israel would not exist. We continue to support them no matter what the circumstances are. We do not have to destroy a country and its people to disprove your god sir. There is much information that contradicts your god and bible. According to your belief system the earth was created 6000 years ago by your god(Jesus father) and 2000 years later god( the realtor) give the Jews this land.
Come on Mr. Saker, the earth was created 4.6 billion years ago, and that is a fact. I would say that contradicts your 100% accuracy of the bible, that’s just one example. You can not prove or disprove that there is a god. But you can come to a educated conclusion by using science, logic and reason. Instead Of believing these stories that were written in the Bronze Age and have been past down for generations. I don’t care if you choose to believe in a god. But when you use god Mr. Saker , your god to justify the killing of other human beings, that is were I draw the line. You have the nerve to say as, Americans we have a death wish if we question your god and the horrible atrocities that are happening in Gaza. God and religion are the down fall of man kind. We have been killing each other in the name of god for thousands of year. Muslims, Jews and Christians alike. When is it going stop Mr Saker? I will tell you when. When we quit believing in god and religion. "

" Dear A-Realist: I can agree with a lot of what you have said to Mr. Saker. Religion which is mankind’s attempt to organize spirituality or the understanding of God owns its share of atrocities. I say this not as a judgement but as an observation. From my humble perspective however it is more the misunderstanding of God or lack of which would be at the core of the matter. There are many versions of what God is entangled in all of the religions. I can easily see how a-realist could doubt its existence. Especially when it is based on stories that were passed along verbally and eventually written down, translated from one language to another and another. A lot can get lost just in the translation. Then perhaps edited by the Council of Nicea and canonized as the only Word of God. If we are God's children why would it have left such a confusing book for us to argue over for all this time? There is certainly a lot to question and I don't blame you. Where my truth differs from yours is when you suggest that we should stop believing in God. I will say that the word believe feels a bit murky as from what I have seen, "belief" systems have a tendancy to shut out new information and blind one to the potential of finding the truth. The word that I can resonate with is to "know" God. As I know God, God is Love. Within Love one may find Peace. Love and Peace can be realized within the Self. When the world knows Love it will realize Peace. One needs to look no further if they are seeking God's address. Aloha and Namaste "

Here are some other things that are just as possible as a magical christian god deeding land to Jews,
Santa Claus flying a magic sleigh all over the planet in one night,
The tooth fairy magically leaving money under every kid's pillow that loses a tooth,
republican'ts cooperating with intelligence and dignity, oh wait that last one is impossible.
As long as there are fantasy driven fanatics like Saker walking around the world will remain a scary place. "
