Kaua‘i’s players Keala Watson, Keahi Watson, Vaughn Meatoga and Jett Jasper hit the fields again this week in preparation for Notre Dame and the Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl.

The players enjoyed time off last week and were back on the practice fields starting on Monday.

The Warriors (7-6), who will play in the Hawai‘i Bowl for the fifth time in seven years, have met the Fighting Irish (6-6) two times previously with the Irish coming out victoriously each time. In 1991, Notre Dame held Hawai‘i to 48-42 and in 1997 kicked a field goal for a 23-22 victory.

A Hawai‘i Bowl guide sent out yesterday by the university’s sports information department released the latest in the Warriors’ depth chart and the team’s most up-to-date statistics.

This appearance marks Hawai‘i’s seventh bowl appearance in 10 years. Outside of the Hawai‘i Bowl, The then Rainbow Warriors played in the Jeep Aloha Bowl and the Thrifty Car Rental’s Holiday Bowl in San Diego. In January, the Warriors, led by Colt Brennan, played in the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

First-year head coach Greg McMackin became the second coach in school history to lead his inaugural team to a bowl game.

The first coach to do so was McMackin’s predecessor June Jones.

Also announced yesterday was the reaching of the fund-raising goal of $100,000. Anheuser-Busch Sales of Hawai‘i announced that it has reached its goal in its “Get in the Game” promotion, which raised funds for the Hawai‘i Athletics Department facility improvements.

Through its statewide campaign, Anheuser-Busch donated 25 cents for every case of Budweiser, Bud Light, Bud Light Lime, and Budweiser Select it sold from August 1 through November 30 of this year, up to $100,000.

“We are truly appreciative of Anheuser-Busch’s commitment to UH Athletics and its generous donation of these funds to help improve our facilities,” Jim Donovan, UH athletics director, said in a release. “As a corporate partner, they have supported many UH causes and initiatives that have benefited all aspects of our sports programs.”

The Warriors will play the Fighting Irish next Wednesday. ESPN will televise the game starting at 3 p.m. Hawai‘i time.
