Host a foreign exchange student

International high school exchange students are coming to study on Kaua‘i during the 2008-09 school year. These students will integrate themselves into a Kaua‘i family with the goal of experiencing American culture as an American high school student. In turn they will provide insight into their own culture.

STS Foundation, a non-profit student exchange organization, has been facilitating these relationships for over 20 years and look forward to finding new host families on Kaua‘i. This will be the third year Kaua‘i has been part of this national program.

Students like Victor are looking for a host family. Victor is a 16 year old boy from Jaboticabal, Brazil, who enjoys soccer and tennis and says he is interested in learning about the American way of life. Louise is a 17 year old girl from Stockholm, Sweden who loves playing and coaching tennis. She also enjoys participating in track and field events and is excited to experience the “school spirit” of an American high school. They are both excellent students and will have their own spending money and health insurance.

The host family provides a separate bed, family meals and a safe environment. Most students arrive in August for a 10-month academic stay. They return to their home country in June or July depending on the ending of school. There are a few students who only come for a semester, e.g. August to January or January to June/July.

STS Foundation is based in Scottsdale, Arizona, and has regional and state offices across the United States. STS Foundation was established in 1986. STSF sponsors an international exchange program for high school students, on a non-immigrant J-1 visa, between the ages of 15-18. This gives the students an opportunity to live with an American family for an academic year or semester while attending the local high school.

If your family is interested in being a host family call 1-800-522-4678 or send an e-mail to lillian@stsfoundation.org. For more information visit stsfoundation.org
