Valiere scores big at Bowls

Kilauea’s Evan Valiere had the second highest heat score of the day in yesterday’s Macy’s E-Series at Ala Moana Bowls.
Valiere scored a 9 and 9.5 for a total 18.5 to defeat Isaac Stant and Ronny Nelson in Round 1, Heat 12 of yesterday’s one-star World Qualifying Series event, presented by the Association of Surfing Professionals Hawai‘i.
He was scheduled to compete in Round 2, Heat 15, but the round was called off after 4 p.m., yesterday, after Heat 8. He will surf when competition resumes today.
Kilauea’s Tyler Newton and Hanalei’s Masaijah Lani were also a casualties of the day’s ending early. Newton defeated Adam Crawford in the first round and will surf his Round 2 heat today. Lani finished second to Hawai‘i surfer Jeremy Doudt and advanced to the next round.
Kapa‘a’s John Irons and Lihu‘e’s Kaipo Jacquais made it through their Round 2 heats, both finishing in second place. They will surf in Round 3 today.
Other Kaua‘ surfers who competed were Koloa’s Kawika Stilwell, Kilauea’s Jesse Merle-Jones and Kapa‘a’s Chris Jones.
