Kauai Red Cross seeks volunteers

Nationwide, the American Red Cross responds to nearly 70,000 disasters each year. The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, provides relief to victims of disaster and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. This is done through the efforts of trained volunteer disaster responders. All Red Cross assistance to disaster victims and disaster training are provided free of charge.

On Kaua‘i, a disaster can strike quickly and without warning. It can force communities to evacuate or it may confine people in their homes leaving families without needed assistance and wondering who will help. That is why the Kauai Red Cross is encouraging residents to sign up now as volunteers and become trained to respond when needed.

There are many roles that volunteers can serve in the Red Cross. Besides specific disaster training, Red Cross volunteers are also provided with free first aid/CPR training.

The Kauai Red Cross needs disaster volunteers to get involved now before a disaster strikes and can provide interested individuals with the necessary training. Communities on Kaua‘i depend on the Red Cross to help if a major disaster strikes the island and assist with the recovery. Support your Kaua‘i branch of the American Red Cross by getting trained and becoming a member of a team of trained disaster volunteer responders. Disaster trainings are scheduled for June, July and August.

Those interested in volunteering can visit the Kauai Red Cross office at 4371 Puaole St., Lihu‘e or call 245-4919 (ask for Alfred Darling) or visit the Web site at www.hawaiiredcross.org
