Abraham Cummings

Abraham “Bra” J. Cummings died on April 4, 2008, at his home in Kapa‘a at the age of 76. He retired from GTE Hawaiian Tel as a PBX technician of 40 years. He was a Kamehameha School alumnus, class of ’49, a Korean war veteran and a member of the Aloha Chapter of the “Chosin Few.”


He also was a longtime musician, former Waikiki Surf Club paddler, and Wailua Canoe Club paddler and coach.

He is survived by wife Helene Roselani Bailey Cummings; children Abraham (Carol) Cummings, Willie (Debra) Cummings, Aaron Cummings, Rinda (Kappy) Aiu, Mamo (Max) Cummings Graham, Koki Cummings, Keliilani Cummings and Cindra Manera; stepchildren Lance, Aric, Keith and Derek Koerte, Alane (Adam) Cole, Lynn (Russ) Mooney and Crissy Shamblin; sister Lovey (Toki) Tokioka; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Friday, April 25, at Kapa‘a First Hawaiian Church; services to follow. Inurnment will be at a later date at Punchbowl National Cemetery of the Pacific.

The family requests no floral arrangements, but lei will be accepted.

Borthwick Kauai Mortuary is handling the arrangements.




Wallace Koga

Wallace “Wally” Mitsuji Koga of Kapa‘a died on April 14, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 65. Born Dec. 11, 1942, in Kilauea, he worked as a taro farmer in Hanalei and also at Silver Falls Ranch as maintenance.

He was preceded in death by brother Herbert Koga.

He is survived by wife Veronica Koga of Kapa‘a; step-son Carlos Espada Jr. of Kapa‘a; sisters Jane (James) Watanabe of California, Jean (Miguel) Legaspi of Kekaha, Joyce (Adam) Santos of O‘ahu; one step-granddaughter; and numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation with the family will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, at The Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Hanalei Ward. Services will begin at 10 a.m.

Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is assisting the Koga family with arrangements.




Ernest Cabral

Ernest R. Cabral of Kalaheo passed away on April 12, 2008, at Wilcox Hospital at the age of 83. Born on Aug. 19, 1924, in Kalaheo, he was a retired machine operator with the state of Hawai‘i.

He was preceded in death by parents Marion (Mary) Ramos-Cabral; son Ernest W.; brothers George, Paul, Henry, Tony, Marion, Manuel and Daniel; and sister Lillian.

He is survived by wife Mary J. Cabral of Lawa‘i; sons Larry A. (Laura) Cabral of Washington and Rodney Cabral of Honolulu; daughters/caregivers Donna L. Caberto (Todd) of Kalaheo and Michelle L. (Wynson) Rapacon of Lihu‘e; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother James (Evelyn) Cabral of Lihu‘e; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29, at the Holy Cross Church. Mass begins at 10 a.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary Ltd.




Mutsume Asakura

Mutsume Asakura, 86, died on March 9, 2008, in Miami, Fla. She was born June 2,1921, in Holualoa, Hawai‘i. She was a retired bookkeeper for numerous family businesses: Kauai Growers Exchange, Growers Investments, Island Investments and Robert’s Hawaii Tours in Lihu‘e.

She is survived by sons Alan of Newport News, Va., Lowell, Mark and Robert of Honolulu; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Private services were held in Honolulu.




Carol Germo

Carol Dean Ululani Kaleimamahu Germo died on April 6, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 68. Born on Dec. 24, 1939, in Honolulu, she was a dedicated minister of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

She is survived by husband Gerry Germo; son William “Billy” Richie of Louisiana; daughters Tina Germo of Anahola, Jennifer (Louis) Rodriguez of Wailua, Tobbie (Steve) Tuttle of Anahola, Naomi (Ryan) Tehada of Wailua; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; special nieces Lei “Aloha” Kaleimamahu, Malia DeFries; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Kapa‘a. Services begin at 2 p.m.

Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is assisting the Germo family with arrangements.
