KIUC candidate forum tonight
By The Garden Island
With the Kauai Island Utility Cooperative’s board of directors election rapidly approaching, The Garden Island hosts a candidates’ forum tonight at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the forum will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Light pupu will be provided with Ron Wiley as emcee and TGI Editor Adam Harju as moderator.
The candidates are: Thomas Ellis, Dennis Esaki, Ken Stokes, Ben Sullivan, Teofilo Phil Tacbian and Peter Yukimura.
Esaki, Tacbian and Yukimura were nominated by the KIUC Nominating Committee in early January and are current board members.
Ellis, Stokes and Sullivan qualified for the election by petition.
Director terms last three years and are staggered so that three seats come up for election each year. A director is one of nine elected representatives of the members of KIUC who collectively constitute the board of directors.
The format for tonight’s forum will be question and answer with an opportunity for the community to participate as well.
Look to The Garden Island tomorrow for coverage of the event, and beginning Saturday, profiles of the candidates. One will run each day for six days.
Come out tonight and learn how the potential directors would approach issues of vast importance to Kaua‘i.
