Jennifer Luck has joined the staff of the Kaua‘i Public Land Trust as the new executive director. In an essential step for the organization, the KBLT hopes that with a complete full-time staff, they will now have the resources necessary to ensure that the scenic, ecological, cultural, recreational and historic lands of Kaua‘i will be preserved for the future.

“It is a privilege to work with the KPLT’s dynamic board of directors,” Luck said. “And (it) will be an honor to spend each day working with the community to preserve Kaua‘i’s places of the heart.”

Considered her dream job, Luck’s position will benefit from her background in fundraising, grassroots organizing, non-profit management experience and leading successful education campaigns. Upon arriving on Kaua‘i, Luck felt committed to give back to the community.

“It is our intent to build KPLT into a trusted, proactive and leading conservation organization,” Dr. Gary Blaich, KBLT board president, said. “Hiring Jennifer Luck as our Executive Director will ensure that our organization has longevity and the tools necessary to become an advocate for the people of Kaua‘i.”

According to Luck, the KBLT has recently acquired a parcel in Wainiha and is currently raising funds for a parcel in Kilauea. Luck also mentioned the KBLT has projects in Princeville and Kapa‘a.

“We have lots of irons in the fire,” Luck said.

As for the future, Luck feels that overdevelopment and the lack of affordable housing poses the greatest threats to the future of Kaua‘i.

“We’re trying to find a viable solution,” Luck said. “We’re trying to make sure people are protected.”

The KBLT is a local and non-profit organization dedicated to preserving Kaua‘i’s land for the benefit of the public.
