Kenny ‘Blues Boss’ Wayne at KCC Performing Arts Center Saturday
Kenny ‘Blues Boss’ Wayne, winner of the Juno award for Best Blues Recording, will appear at Kaua‘i Community College Performing Arts Center. Starting at 7 p.m., he and his band will bring down the house with his mix of New Orleans Blues and Jazz, Kansas City Swing and West Coast Jump.
The Chicago Sun Times said, “There’s no boogie woogie-blues piano man out there today who pounds the 88s with the conviction of Kenny ‘Blues Boss’ Wayne.”
Living Blues Magazine wrote, “Back in the 1950s, Kenny’s talent at rolling a rumbling piano boogie would have earned him fame and fortune as a rock-n-roller. If the piano ever returns to the front ranks of contemporary blues, Kenny Wayne may well be leading the charge.”
Wayne has worked with artists as diverse as Jimmy Reed, Charles Mingus, Sonny Rhodes, Jeff Healey and Joe Louis Walker. He has won two Juno awards, has won the Maple Blues Award for Piano Player of the Year three times, and has won 14 awards from Real Blues Magazine, including Blues Artist of the Year.
He and his band are coming to Kaua‘i as part of the Kaua‘i Concert Association’s 2007-2008 season. Tickets are $35 for adults, $10 for students, and may be purchased online at Kaua‘i-concert.org or at the following outlets: Borders Books and Music, Magic Dragon, Island Soap and Candle, Scotty’s Music, Bounty Music, Dr. Ding’s, and Aloha-n-Paradise. Or by calling 245-SING.
