A Poker Run Benefit Ride sponsored by a nonprofit organ-ization will take place Oct. 7 for Cheysen Kaluahine.

The recently formed Combined Off-Road Riders of Kauai is planning the benefit in ‘Oma‘o to help Cheysen, who was born with microphthalmos, ptosis. He needs a second eye surgery (the first one failed) to treat thecondition. The delicate surgery can only be done by an ophthalmologist in Missouri which means medical costs and travel expenses will be staggering. according to a press release.

“Let’s help this little guy get his eye fixed,” C.O.R.K. president Danny Lepley states in the release. Five dollars from every adult rider will be donated to Cheysen’s expenses.

C.O.R.K. is a nonprofit association formed for the purpose of combining all off-road riders into a united strength, seeking to obtain legal riding areas here on Kaua‘i.

Cost of the ride will be $25 for adults 16 and over ($5 goes to Cheysen’s fund), $10 for keiki, members only. Non-members may get a one-day membership pass by adding $10. The non-member pass will also be added to the fund.

C.O.R.K. members who have not yet received their membership cards can pick them up at the run. Early sign-up forms will not be available, but the entry process will go much faster if you know your membership number, Lepley states. The membership numbers list can be seen, and flyers picked up at Cycle City/Two Wheels, Suzuki Kauai, North Shore Motorcycles, S&S Speed Shop, Kauai Harley-Davidson, Kauai Cycle and the Computer Hospital.

It is also posted on C.O.R.K.’s Web site, www.corkauai.com. Registration/insurance waivers must be signed prior to participation. Hospitality and refreshments will be available to all participants following the Poker Run. Gates open at 7:30 a.m. for registration. Follow the ribbons down Tree Tunnels Road to the entrance gate.
