Two Kaua‘i residents were injured in a two-car crash in Kilauea yesterday around 1:30 p.m.
A preliminary report indicated that a man in a pickup truck was stopped on the eastern side of the Pili Road and Kuhi‘o Highway junction. While he was waiting to cross the highway to the western side, he was struck by a man in a red sedan who was traveling northbound on the same road.
Mary Daubert, county spokeswoman, said the man in the red sedan sustained serious injuries, while the man in the pickup truck sustained minor injuries. According to scanner traffic, at least one of the drivers suffered a broken leg.
Both men were taken in an ambulance to Wilcox Memorial Hospital for treatment.
At press time, it was not known whether speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
